The passersby...

Carried on the wings of consciousness, and yearning for the principle of reason, it is the supplication of those who have settled at the threshold of questioning, and walked the paths of passage to the light.
O You who are the cause of existence, and the secret of the first emanation, we call upon You in our weakness and in the apparent strength of our being, in our poverty before You and in our richness through You, in our ignorance and in our knowledge of what You will, we call upon You while our souls are naked except for their longing for You, and our minds are thirsty except for Your bounty…
O Most Merciful of the merciful, O You whose mercy encompasses those who do not know You, and whose forbearance precedes the ignorance of those who seek You, we are the ruins of a perception that seeks the truth, and the ghosts of knowledge that yearn for the first light.
We see through You, and through Your grace in our sight, and we are aware of You, through the discipline of our limbs and senses, and we hope that a radiance from Your eternal mind will touch our soul, so that we may awaken from the slumber of the senses to the awakening of the loving mind.
We are passersby in the wilderness of our lives, carrying the pains of questions, and groping with the threads of our souls for the way back, under the winds of passion, and in the darkness of the ego.
Do not make us a veil for ourselves, a temptation for our hearts, or a curtain that prevents us from witnessing your face.
O You to Whom all things return, make our awareness a ladder to You, our wounds a sanctuary where Your kindness descends, and our weakness a path to witnessing You.
Teach us that love is not possession, nor false attachment, but rather annihilation in Your light, dissolution in Your mercy, and manifestation in Your true mind.
Make us love as you love, without passion, without constraint, without selfishness, but with a mind enlightened by you, with a mind connected to your higher mind, with a mind that is a manifestation of your first emanation.
O You who are not veiled by any veil, nor confined by any place, nor folded by any time, purify our hearts from all that is other than You, empty them of the clutter of images, and adorn them with the light of humility, so that they may be a mirror of Your face and an echo of Your wisdom.
Open for us the doors of dawn within us, before we witness the light on our horizons, and illuminate the night of our souls with Your certainty, with the annihilation of our souls in You alone.
If we fall, raise us up with Your mercy; if we get lost, guide us back with Your forbearance; if our paths become narrow for us, widen them with Your kindness.
O Companion of solitude, Light of darkness, Guide of travelers, and End of those passing through, make us walk towards You with the striving of lovers, the striving of knowers, and the striving of free servitude.
O Exalted One,
