Cervical cancer is preventable and curable if it is detected early and managed effectively. Yet it is the 4th most common form of cancer among women worldwide, claiming the life of one woman every 90 seconds.
Eliminating #CervicalCancer is a major public health goal.
The aim is for all countries to reach and maintain an incidence rate below 4 women per 100 000.
Achieving this goal means the following targets must be achieved:
- vaccinate 90% of girls with preventive HPV vaccines by the age of 15
- screen 70% of women with a high-performance test such as HPV screening by the age of 35 and again by the age of 45
- treat 90% of women who have precancerous cells in the cervix or cervical cancer.
